Paris cancels planned meeting on peace plan for Ukraine
The meeting in Paris scheduled for Saturday to promote the American peace plan for Ukraine will not take place. A source in the Elysee Palace said this on Friday evening. This is reported by The Public with reference to Rmf24.pl.
As Axios previously reported, high-ranking officials from the United States, Ukraine, France, Germany and the United Kingdom were to gather in France. It was about the final preparations for discussing the plan that Washington is promoting amid protracted negotiations and Russian aggression. National security advisers from these countries were to take part, although it was still unclear whether US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who is also an adviser to President Donald Trump, would attend.
Meanwhile, The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump, during a tense phone call, urged European leaders to put pressure on Volodymyr Zelenskyy to agree to the American version of a peaceful settlement.
While the talks in Paris have been cancelled, diplomatic contacts continue. Berlin said that Chancellor Friedrich Merz will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday. European leaders, as well as representatives of the EU and NATO, are expected to join the discussion of the state of the peace talks.
