A former employee of the Ukrainian security services, believed to be a self-taught counterfeiter, has been arrested in Poland
This is reported by Gazeta Wyborcza.
At the end of last year, the Central Bureau for Combating Cybercrime seized 76 counterfeit 500-zloty banknotes.
Following cooperation with the criminal investigation department of the Radom City Police Headquarters, the criminal investigation department of the Radom Provincial Police Headquarters, and the economic crime department of the Warsaw Police Headquarters, seven suspects were recently arrested.
In the town of Sochaczew, two Ukrainian nationals — a husband and wife — were arrested. The Polish police believe the man to be a counterfeiter: a complete production line for counterfeiting banknotes and printouts of 100- and 200-zloty notes was found in his flat. Images of banknotes matching those in circulation were also found on his computer.
According to the police, the suspect is a former employee of the Ukrainian security services, who is self-taught in the field of counterfeiting and possesses specialist knowledge in IT and electronics.
A Russian national was also detained in Wrocław, who is alleged to have been an accomplice of the Ukrainian and had previously been involved in drug production. A precursor for the production of methamphetamine was seized from him. Meanwhile, in Katowice and Poznań, the police detained the remaining suspects, who had provided bank accounts to other members of the criminal group.
The police emphasised that the investigation is ongoing and further arrests are possible.
