A fire broke out at the Lukoil oil refinery in Volgograd after a drone attack.
On the night of 11 February, the Volgograd region of Russia suffered a massive drone attack. The Russian Ministry of Defence reported that 49 drones were intercepted over the region. The governor reported strikes on energy and civilian infrastructure facilities.
According to him, an apartment in a residential building at 75 Karbyshev Street in the city of Volzhsky was damaged, and a drone crashed into the territory of the Yagodka kindergarten. In addition, a fire broke out on the territory of a factory in the south of Volgograd. According to preliminary data, there were no casualties.
Local residents reported a significant number of explosions and a strong fire in the industrial zone. Publications and monitoring Telegram channels, in particular ASTRA, claim that the Lukoil Volgogradneftepererabotka oil refinery in the Krasnoarmeysky district of the city was hit. OSINT analysis of eyewitness footage confirmed that it was this particular enterprise at 55 40 Let VLKSM Street that was on fire. One of the photos was taken from Zagorskaya Street, approximately 31 kilometres from the scene of the fire.
Lukoil Volgogradneftepererabotka is the largest oil refinery in the Volgograd region and one of Lukoil's key assets. The plant processes more than 15 million tonnes of oil annually. According to Reuters data for 2024, the Volgograd refinery processed 13.7 million tonnes of oil, accounting for 5.1 per cent of Russia's total oil refining volume.
The plant specialises in deep oil refining and the production of petrol, diesel and aviation fuel, fuel oil, bitumen and other petroleum products. After previous attacks, the plant periodically stopped operations due to damage.
According to ASTRA estimates, this is at least the ninth attack on this refinery since the start of the full-scale war. Previous strikes were recorded in February 2024, January 2025, again at the end of January 2025, in February and March 2025, on 14 and 16 August 2025, and in November 2025.
Operational services continue to search for and dispose of drone debris in the region.
