A high school student was arrested in Kharkiv for preparing a terrorist attack

Law enforcement officers reported the prevention of a terrorist act in Kharkiv. According to the investigation, a 16-year-old high school student from the Odesa region was involved in the preparation.
Investigators note that in February 2026, the teenager, looking for a way to earn money, contacted unidentified individuals via Telegram. According to preliminary operational information, these individuals are representatives of the Russian Federation. He was promised 5,000 US dollars for completing the task.
According to law enforcement, the minor was initially transferred about 20,000 hryvnias for travel to Kharkiv and accommodation.
On 25 February, the boy received the coordinates of a hiding place with a homemade explosive device. He then took the explosives and stored them at his temporary residence.
On 27 February 2026, the teenager was detained in Kharkiv. During a sanctioned search, a homemade explosive device with striking elements, an electric detonator, tools for making explosives, mobile phones, mobile phone starter packs, a bank card and other material evidence were seized.
The prosecutor approved the notification of suspicion of preparing to commit a terrorist act under Part 1 of Article 14 and Part 2 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The court imposed a preventive measure in the form of detention without the right to bail.
As part of the criminal proceedings, the possible involvement of representatives of the aggressor state in recruiting the minor and coordinating his actions is being investigated.
