Ukraine has nominated the vyshyvanka for inclusion on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Ukraine has submitted the vyshyvanka to UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Про це повідомила віцепрем’єр-міністерка з гуманітарної політики – міністерка культури України Тетяна Бережна, інформує УНН.

Україна подала вишиванку до Репрезентативного списку нематеріальної культурної спадщини людства ЮНЕСКО.

Тетяна Бережна назвала це історичним кроком для збереження та міжнародного визнання української культури.

За її словами, вишиті сорочки є одним із найсильніших символів української ідентичності.

What the vyshyvanka means to Ukraine

The minister emphasised that the vyshyvanka remains an integral part of modern culture.

“It is very important to us that the world knows: the vyshyvanka is Ukrainian. And that, through it, the world comes to know Ukraine and the strength of our culture even more deeply,” she said.

Vyshyvanka Day

On 15 May, the world celebrated Vyshyvanka Day.

This holiday is intended to preserve the folk traditions of creating and wearing ethnic embroidered Ukrainian clothing.

Vyshyvanka Day is not mandatory, but millions of people around the world take part in it.

Participants in the celebration demonstrate their national identity and cultural unity.
