Ukrainian strikes have destroyed over 60,000 tonnes of ammunition near St Petersburg – Zelenskyy
This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The President did not specify exactly which attacks he was referring to, but on 3 June, Ukrainian forces struck one of the largest oil terminals on the Baltic Sea in the port of St Petersburg.
A few days later, on 6 June, the Russian Baltic Fleet’s Kronstadt naval base near St Petersburg — one of the oldest in Russia — came under attack. The base houses warships, submarines, training centres, repair docks and shipbuilding facilities.
Zelenskyy also stated that, due to the threat of strikes, Russia had begun redeploying air defence systems from the regions to Moscow and the Kerch Bridge — this is confirmed by internal Russian documents obtained by specialists from the Main Intelligence Directorate.
On 16 and 18 June, Ukrainian drones struck the Moscow oil refinery — 500 kilometres from the Ukrainian border and 15 kilometres from the Kremlin. The second attack is described as the largest attack on the Russian capital since the start of the war.
