Ukraine shoots down 80% of missiles and 90% of drones — Fedorov
Ukraine has learned to shoot down 90% of enemy drones and nearly 80% of cruise missiles, even after a harsh winter during which Russia doubled the number of attacks.

This is stated in a post by Ukraine’s Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov.

German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius visited Kyiv and saw how Ukraine is defending its airspace.

Fedorov showed Pistorius the location of a ‘small’ air defence system and an energy facility in Kyiv that had been damaged by Russian attacks.

The German Defence Minister was also shown:

  • measures to counter ‘Shahed’-type drones;
  • mobile fire teams;
  • technologies for destroying enemy targets.

According to Fedorov, last winter was one of the hardest for Ukraine.

“Russia has almost doubled the number of attacks. In just a few months, the enemy has launched over 1,000 ballistic and cruise missiles and 27,000 Shahed-type drones. The main target is Ukraine’s energy sector and large-scale blackouts during periods of frost down to -20°C,” the minister stated.

Fedorov named Germany as one of the key leaders in strengthening Ukraine’s air defence.

Berlin has supplied missiles for the "Patriot" system, funded the PURL mechanism, and launched an initiative for the urgent transfer of missiles from European stockpiles during the most critical winter period.

"Every such missile saved lives and helped protect the Ukrainian power grid," Fedorov emphasised.

Currently, Ukraine intercepts around 90% of enemy drones and almost 80% of cruise missiles.

Ballistic missiles remain the most difficult challenge. However, together with Germany, Ukraine is working to resolve this issue – through additional Patriot missiles, the PURL mechanism and the creation of its own European anti-ballistic capability.

As a reminder, the day before, the Ukrainian and German defence ministers, Mykhailo Fedorov and Boris Pistorius, agreed to launch the Brave Germany programme.

The Kremlin is seeking a way out of the war amid military and economic difficulties

Russia is facing mounting pressure due to the situation on the front line, economic problems and strikes by Ukrainian drones on its territory. European officials suggest that Moscow’s increasingly aggressive rhetoric may be linked to attempts to restart the negotiation process on its own terms.
