Україна отримала теплову електростанцію з Литви через Механізм цивільного захисту ЄС
The European Commission, in coordination with its partners, has completed a large-scale operation to transfer a complete set of equipment for a thermal power plant from Lithuania to Ukraine under the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. A total of 149 deliveries were made with a total weight of 2,399 tonnes, of which 40 were oversized. These included transformers and stators weighing around 172 tonnes each, which required special routes and equipment. The Ministry of Energy reports.
Partners from Poland played a special role in the transport. According to the European Commission, the support of the Polish government's Strategic Reserves Agency allowed the heaviest components to be safely delivered across several countries to Ukraine, which was critical to the success of the entire operation.
The donated equipment has already been used for emergency repairs in several regions where energy infrastructure was severely damaged by Russian strikes. This allowed us to restore some of the generating capacity and increase the resilience of the Ukrainian energy system on the eve of another winter of war.
Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Roman Andarak stressed that the assistance of Lithuania, Poland and European partners allowed to quickly return critical facilities to operation. According to him, this equipment has become a real contribution to protecting millions of consumers from power and heat outages.
European Commissioner for Preparedness and Crisis Management Hajia Lahbib called the delivery of the power plant an example of European solidarity in action. She noted that the operation was the most logistically challenging for the EU and is helping to provide light and heat to around one million people who are experiencing the fourth winter of full-scale war.
The transfer of the TPP is part of the EU's wider response to Russia's aggression against Ukraine since February 2022. Some 9,500 generators and 7,200 transformers have already been delivered to Ukraine through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. The total volume of EU humanitarian support has exceeded 160,000 tonnes, and the funding for assistance programmes has reached more than €1.2 billion.
