Ukrenergo has warned of fraudulent messages regarding financial compensation for power cuts
The fraudsters provide a link to a fake website and ask you to enter your bank details.
Fraudsters have become increasingly active on social media, sending fake messages about financial compensation from ‘Ukrenergo’ for prolonged power cuts.

This was reported by Ukrenergo.

The company noted that there are various versions of the messages — payments in conjunction with Oschadbank, the UN or the Red Cross. And they warned: this is yet another manipulation of a sensitive issue!

“NPC Ukrenergo is a transmission system operator that does not supply electricity to domestic consumers and, accordingly, cannot pay any compensation,” the company emphasised.

The aim of the fake messages is to steal personal data and banking information.

The fraudsters provide a link to a fake website, styled to look like ‘Oschadbank’ or another institution, and ask users to enter their bank card number, expiry date and CVV code ‘to receive the payment’.

Once unsuspecting citizens enter their details, the fraudsters gain access to their accounts and withdraw funds.

Ukrenergo is warning Ukrainians to be cautious and not to let fraudsters deceive them:

  • do not click on any suspicious links;
  • do not enter personal details;
  • if you have accidentally entered your bank details, block your card immediately.
