Emergency power cuts introduced in Ukraine: metro service suspended in Kyiv, water supply problems in several cities
On 31 January, emergency power cuts were implemented in Kyiv, Kyiv Oblast, Odesa Oblast, and Dnipropetrovsk Oblast on the orders of Ukrenergo. According to DTEK, hourly schedules do not apply during such power cuts.
In the capital, due to a drop in voltage from external power supply centres, train traffic and metro escalators were temporarily stopped, and underground stations are currently operating on backup power and are being used as shelters.
Power supply problems have also been reported in other regions. In Sumy, power outages have affected some municipal water facilities, and trolleybus services have been suspended. Specialists are working to restore power, after which water supply will also be restored.
Vinnytsia was left without water due to a complete lack of electricity. The city's main water supply station has stopped working, according to Vinnytsiaoblvokanal.
In the Odesa region, the situation was complicated by bad weather. On the night of 31 January, ice damage caused power lines to be damaged and wires to be broken. As of the morning, subscribers in five districts of the region, including Podilskyi, Berezivskyi, Rozdilnianskyi, Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi and Odeskyi, remained without power. In Odesa, electricity is being supplied primarily to critical infrastructure facilities.
Energy workers are inspecting damaged lines and working in difficult weather conditions to stabilise the situation and restore power supply as quickly as possible.
