Explosion near the US Embassy in Oslo: three brothers of Iraqi origin detained
This was reported by BFM TV.
On 11 March, three brothers of Norwegian citizenship and Iraqi origin were detained in Norway on suspicion of involvement in the explosion near the US Embassy in Oslo.
Norwegian police said it was a "terrorist bomb attack" on the US embassy that took place last weekend.
The explosion damaged one of the entrances to the US embassy on Saturday night.
No one was injured in the incident, but the building suffered minor material damage.
The attack took place against the backdrop of the war in the Middle East, where Israeli and American strikes on Iran have been ongoing since the end of February, with Tehran responding with missile and drone attacks on several countries in the region.
All three suspects were detained on Wednesday in Oslo.
According to police, one of them is suspected of leaving the explosive device near the embassy, while the other two are suspected of complicity.
Law enforcement officials also said they do not rule out further arrests in this case.
During a press conference, police spokesman Christian Hatlo said that investigators are continuing to consider several theories.
According to him, one of them is that the attack could have been organised on behalf of a state actor.
He noted that this version seems natural given the target of the attack — the US embassy — as well as the current global security situation.
The police also do not rule out links between the suspects and criminal networks.
In its annual threat assessment report released last month, the Norwegian Internal Security Service (PST) stated that Iran is one of the main threats to the Scandinavian kingdom.
The same document noted that Tehran could rely on "proxy actors," including "criminal networks."
At the same time, the police reported that none of the three detainees had previously been known to law enforcement agencies.
