Indonesian authorities block Elon Musk's Grok due to threats in the digital space
Indonesia has become the first country in the world to temporarily block Grok chatbot, created by Elon Musk's xAI startup, due to the risks of spreading pornographic content generated by artificial intelligence. It is reported by Reuters.
Indonesian Minister of Communications and Digital Technology Meutia Hafid said that the government considers the practice of creating sexualised digital files without consent as a serious violation of human rights, dignity and security of citizens in the digital environment.
The ministry also said that it had summoned representatives of the social network X to discuss the situation and further steps.
Indonesia, which is the country with the largest Muslim community in the world, has strict online content laws and prohibits the dissemination of material deemed obscene or offensive to public morals.
Elon Musk has previously stated that Grok users who use the tool to create illegal content will be held as responsible as those who distribute prohibited materials.
As reported, Grok chatbot has already been criticised by governments in a number of countries after cases of generating sexualised images of women and children without their consent. Amid the public outcry, the developers have restricted the image creation function for most users of the X platform.
