Weather on 1 June 2026: thunderstorms and fog are set to affect parts of Ukraine
At the start of the calendar summer, the weather in Ukraine will be determined by cyclonic activity over the west of the country. Gradually, this unstable air mass may spread to the central and northern regions.
Forecasters predict the most challenging conditions in five regions: Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Zakarpattia, Ternopil and Chernivtsi.
In the morning, thick fog with visibility of 200–500 metres is possible there. Thunderstorms and heavy rain are expected in the afternoon.
The centre and north are also at risk
In the central regions, thunderstorms will be localised.
This applies, in particular, to Vinnytsia, Cherkasy and Kirovohrad regions. In some places, rainfall may be heavy.
In the northern regions, particularly in the Kyiv and Zhytomyr regions, short-lived showers with thunderstorms are also possible during the day. At the same time, the morning in these regions is expected to be calmer.
What will the temperature be?
Temperatures on 1 June will remain moderate, with no abnormal heat.
During the day, temperatures of +18…+23 degrees are expected across most of Ukraine.
In the south and east, the air may warm up to +25 degrees.
At night, temperatures will range from +10 to +15 degrees, and in some parts of the western regions they may drop to +8 degrees.
Weather in the south
In the south of Ukraine, the day will pass without significant rainfall.
In the Odesa, Mykolaiv and Kherson regions, variable cloud cover is forecast, but the sun will make an appearance from time to time.
The wind will be mainly south-westerly, 5–10 m/s. During thunderstorms, short-lived gusts of up to 15–18 m/s are possible in places.
According to the preliminary forecast, unsettled weather may persist during the first few days of the new week.
From 3–4 June, a gradual rise in atmospheric pressure and an end to rainfall are expected across most of Ukraine.
Air temperatures may rise to a comfortable +22…+27 degrees.
Warning for drivers
Forecasters are urging drivers to be particularly careful on the morning of 1 June in the western regions.
Due to fog, visibility on the roads may drop to 200–500 metres. Combined with wet road surfaces following overnight rain, this increases the risk of accidents.
Drivers are advised to maintain a safe distance, avoid sudden manoeuvres and take changing road conditions into account. During a thunderstorm, pedestrians should not take shelter under trees, advertising structures or power lines.
