Zelenskyy and Rutte discussed strengthening Ukraine’s air defence and the implementation of the PURL programme
In Brussels, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, met with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte.
During the talks, the Head of State reported on important meetings with partners at the G7 summit and agreements on further support for Ukraine and increasing pressure on Russia.
According to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the parties discussed the implementation of decisions that had been agreed with partners. One of the main topics was work on strengthening Ukraine’s defences. The President noted that the country is counting on receiving additional interceptors and missiles for the Patriot systems. Work is also continuing on obtaining licences from the US to manufacture air defence systems.
Special attention was paid to the PURL programme during the meeting. Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Mark Rutte discussed its further implementation and the injection of new contributions from partners. The President emphasised that this programme plays a vital role in protecting people’s lives, which is why it is important to ensure the swiftest possible delivery of anti-ballistic missiles.
The parties also raised the issue of work on developing a European anti-ballistic missile system.
The President thanked the NATO Secretary-General for his support for Ukraine and for the invitation to the Alliance’s summit, which will take place in Ankara in July. During the conversation, they also discussed how to maximise the effectiveness of the upcoming summit to strengthen Ukraine’s defence.
