Geneva to host new round of talks between Ukraine, US and Russia: delegation members announced
The next round of trilateral talks between Ukraine, the United States and Russia will take place on 17–18 February in Geneva, Switzerland. Rustem Umerov, Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council, announced preparations for the meeting.
According to him, the President of Ukraine has determined the preliminary composition of the delegation. Along with Umerov, the negotiating team will include the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate, Kirill Budanov, the commander of the Joint Forces, Andriy Gnatov, People's Deputy Davyd Arakhamia, Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN Serhiy Kyslytsya, and Deputy Head of the Main Intelligence Directorate Vadym Skibitsky.
Umerov stressed that the team was formed taking into account the military, political, and security components of the process. According to him, the delegation will work on substantive decisions within the framework defined by the head of state, and the goal remains to achieve a sustainable and lasting peace.
Presidential Communications Adviser Dmytro Litvin confirmed that the talks will take place on 17–18 February in Geneva.
Meanwhile, the Kremlin announced that the Russian delegation will be headed by Russian Presidential Aide Vladimir Medinsky. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov specified that the talks will be held in a trilateral format. Medinsky previously headed the Russian delegation at bilateral talks with Ukraine in Istanbul last spring.
The previous two rounds of trilateral consultations involving delegations from Ukraine, the United States and Russia took place on 23–24 January and 4–5 February in Abu Dhabi. At that time, the Russian side was represented, in particular, by GRU chief Igor Kostyukov.
The new round in Geneva is expected to continue discussions on political and security issues within the established format.
