On the night of 7 July, Belgorod and the Belgorod Region came under a massive attack. Local authorities reported damage to energy infrastructure, whilst Russian and Ukrainian sources have reported that a number of facilities have been hit.

The acting governor of the Belgorod Region stated that, on the night of 7 July, Belgorod and the surrounding area came under a massive missile attack. According to him, most of the missiles were reportedly shot down, but hits on civilian infrastructure were recorded.

Shuvaev said that energy infrastructure in Belgorod had been damaged, leading to power and water supply disruptions in certain parts of the city and several municipalities.

The local publication ‘Pepel’ reported that several electrical substations were hit. Following the strikes, power was cut off in parts of the city, leading to an emergency water shutdown.

The Telegram channel ‘Astra’, having analysed photos and videos from eyewitnesses, reported that one of the targets was the Belgorodskoye Linear Production Directorate for Main Gas Pipelines. A fire broke out on the site. According to publicly available data, the Belgorod Linear Production Directorate for Main Gas Pipelines is a subsidiary of Gazprom Transgaz Moscow LLC, which forms part of PJSC ‘Gazprom’ and is responsible for the operation of main gas transmission facilities and the supply of gas to consumers in the Belgorod Region.

In addition, the governor of the Kaluga Region, Vladislav Shapsh, reported a fire at an industrial plant in the Dzerzhinsky District following a drone attack. This area is home to the ‘First Plant’ oil refinery, an oil depot in the village of Zhiletovo and several large enterprises in the pulp and paper industry.

The governor of the Tula Region claimed that 11 drones had allegedly been shot down over the region.

The BBC’s Russian Service, citing Russian sources, reported that Moscow had suffered its largest drone attack in the last two years. Moscow’s Mayor Sergei Sobyanin stated that between the evening of 6 July and 06:00 on 7 July, more than 430 drones were flying towards the Moscow region, most of which, he said, had allegedly been neutralised by air defence forces. He also reported that 36 drones had allegedly been shot down as they approached Moscow.

Rosaviatsiya announced temporary restrictions on operations at Domodedovo, Vnukovo, Zhukovsky and Sheremetyevo airports. Restrictions were also introduced at airports in Kaluga, Nizhny Novgorod, Krasnodar, Sochi and Saratov due to the threat posed by drones.

Meanwhile, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that a number of military and logistical facilities on Russian territory and in the temporarily occupied Crimea had been struck. According to the General Staff, the targets included JSC ‘Kremny EL Group’ in Bryansk, the ‘Bryansk’ chemical plant, the oil depot at Belgorod airfield, two logistics bridges in Crimea, which were used to transport personnel, weapons and ammunition, as well as depots for material and technical supplies in the Donetsk region.
