A former MP has called for new details to be revealed regarding the fraud committed by Vasyl Veselyi, who was detained by the SBU today
The press office of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office has stated that the SBU did not detain businessman Vasyl Veselyi, who is linked to Sens Bank. The office said that it had merely carried out investigative measures. According to sources cited by the UP publication, the case concerns money laundering, reports UNIAN.
“No one was detained as part of the investigative activities, and no one has been notified of any suspicion. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing,” the prosecutor’s office noted.
Vasyl Veselyi is linked to major state assets and corporate dealings surrounding Sens Bank and the company Karpatnaftohim.
"He has built a well-oiled system for receiving kickbacks from all clients of Sens Bank, where almost every client pays Vasyl a separate commission into his wallet; without this, accounts are not opened, and I won’t even mention the online casino clients, where he’s trying to get a cut of the profits! A notorious character and a man who points the finger at everyone but himself and is capable of betraying anyone for personal gain," commented former MP Ihor Mosiychuk on the investigation into the businessman, urging people to report any fraud in which Vasyl Veselyi may be involved.
It should be recalled that following the nationalisation of "Sens Bank", the businessman served as an adviser to the bank’s previous supervisory board. During a meeting of the parliamentary temporary investigative commission in 2026, the bank’s chairman, Oleksiy Stupak, confirmed that Veselyi had been appointed as an adviser to the supervisory board and had advised it on specific matters, for which he received remuneration from the bank. In turn, MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak described Vasyl Veselyi as the “overseer” of Sens Bank.
At that time, the bank effectively controlled 100% of Visa’s gambling acquiring business, as it was the only institution with the necessary authorisation from this payment system to process such payments. The bank itself did not deny its involvement in the gambling market.
Vasyl Veselyi was dismissed from his post, but journalists believe that Veselyi has not lost actual control over the financial institution. In particular, Volodymyr Bondarenko notes that, with the businessman’s involvement, the bank continues to hold tenders in which the terms are tailored to a specific winner.
“To circumvent the AMCU, the procedure is carried out under a simplified process. Therefore, only NABU can stop Vasyl,” the investigator concludes.
