SSU drones halted the operation of a Russian oil platform in the Caspian Sea
Ukrainian long-range drones struck a Russian oil production facility in the Caspian Sea for the first time, halting the operation of more than twenty wells

Ukrainian drones from the SSU's Alpha Special Operations Centre attacked the Filanovsky offshore platform owned by Lukoil Nizhnevolzhskneft in the Caspian Sea. Sources in the SSU confirm at least four hits. After the attack, oil and gas production from more than twenty wells served by the platform was halted.

This is Ukraine's first known strike on a Russian oil and gas facility in the Caspian Sea. This is one of the largest in the Russian sector of the Caspian Sea, with reserves of about 129 million tonnes of oil and 30 billion cubic metres of gas. The extracted products were exported through the Caspian Pipeline Consortium.

The SSU emphasises that it continues to expand the geography of its operations against the Russian energy sector, which supports the war against Ukraine. The attack in the Caspian Sea was another signal to Russia that any enterprise involved in the war machine is a legitimate target, regardless of its location.

Russia is facing mounting pressure due to the situation on the front line, economic problems and strikes by Ukrainian drones on its territory. European officials suggest that Moscow’s increasingly aggressive rhetoric may be linked to attempts to restart the negotiation process on its own terms.
