Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has announced that the signing of new Defence Forces contracts has begun in Ukraine. These contracts provide for fixed terms of service, guaranteed deferrals following the end of the contract, a new payment system and greater predictability for service personnel.

Mykhailo Fedorov announced the start of the signing of new contracts on Telegram. According to the Ministry of Defence, from 15 June, it is possible in Ukraine to sign an infantry assault, combat or basic contract for military service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other components of the Defence Forces.

The signing of new Defence Forces contracts has begun in Ukraine. From now on, these contracts can be signed by civilians, conscripts, serving military personnel and those already serving under contract.

According to Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, the new contract system is intended to make service more predictable. It provides for clear terms of service, guaranteed deferrals following completion of service, an updated pay system and greater control over one’s own service.

What contracts are available

From 15 June, three types of new contracts are available in Ukraine: infantry assault, combat and basic.

For serving military personnel, the main change lies in the fixed terms of service. Depending on the type of contract, these can range from 6 to 24 months.

Upon completion of the contract, a guaranteed deferment is provided. Its duration must take into account the soldier’s previous period of service and combat experience.

Who can sign a new contract

Several categories of citizens are eligible to sign new contracts.

These include civilians wishing to enlist, those who have been mobilised, serving military personnel, as well as military personnel already serving under contract who wish to switch to the new terms.

The Ministry of Defence explains that the new system is intended to provide servicemen with clearer rules: where they will serve, how long their service will last, and what will happen upon completion of the contract.

How to sign a new contract

There are several ways to switch to a new contract.

Via the “Army+” app, you need to submit a report in the “Services – Contracts” section and track the status of its consideration directly in the app.

Through your military unit, you can submit a request to sign a new contract via the personnel department.

Via the “Reserve+” app, in the “Vacancies – New Contracts” section, you can select a vacancy and submit an application to the unit. After that, a recruiter should contact you.

You can also contact the recruitment centre, get advice on the terms of service, choose a position and start the contract process.

What will happen with payments

According to Fedorov, new payments for June are due to be credited to military personnel as early as July.

All military personnel will receive these payments regardless of whether they have signed new contracts.

Earlier, the Ministry of Defence reported that the first stage of the Defence Forces’ transformation involves a new pay system, increased payments for military personnel on the front line, and an increase in basic pay for those serving in the rear.

Why is this called the first stage of transformation?

Fedorov stated that the launch of the new contracts is only the first stage of the transformation of the Defence Forces.

According to him, the Ministry of Defence’s task is to build a military service system with clear rules, fair conditions and respect for the individual.

This transformation also envisages new approaches to recruitment, service, pay, the return of servicemen from the Special Forces, and the gradual discharge of those who have served the longest and have the most combat experience.

Where to get advice

Detailed information on contract terms and the application process can be obtained by calling the hotline on 1519.

The Ministry of Defence has also launched a dedicated website for the Defence Forces’ contract system, where service terms and explanations regarding the new contracts are published.
