Former head of the Tax Control Centre in Kirovohrad region charged over a car worth 2.5 million hryvnias
The charges were brought following an audit of the 2024 declaration carried out by the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption. Investigators from the State Bureau of Investigations are also involved in the investigation.
What irregularities were found in the declaration
According to the investigation, the former official failed to declare three cars registered in his wife’s name:
- a 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid worth over 1 million UAH;
- a 2024 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross worth around 1.2 million hryvnias;
- A 2014 Volkswagen Touran worth almost 89,000 UAH.
The total value of the undeclared assets exceeds 2.3 million UAH.
In addition, law enforcement officers established that the official had failed to declare income of 200,000 UAH, which his wife received from the sale of a Kia Cerato.
Questions also arose regarding the origin of the funds
During the audit, the NACP also drew attention to the purchase of a Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross. According to the agency, the former official’s wife spent over 593,000 UAH, the source of which could not be established during the audit.
The former head of the TCC himself denied having any knowledge of the vehicles; however, as law enforcement agencies note, these explanations were not substantiated.
This is not the first violation
The prosecutor’s office noted that during the audit of the 2023 declaration, the NACP had already identified breaches of financial control requirements by this official.
At that time, the court found him guilty of an administrative offence and imposed a fine of 17,000 UAH. The decision has become final.
The former official is currently charged with the deliberate inclusion of knowingly false information in his declaration (Part 1 of Article 366-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
At the same time, in accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent until their guilt is proven in accordance with the procedure established by law and confirmed by a court conviction.
