France has summoned a Russian diplomat over cyberattacks
On 17 July, the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs summoned the chargé d’affaires of the Embassy of the Russian Federation. This was in response to cyber-attacks which the French authorities link to the activities of the Russian security services

This was reported on the official France Diplomatie portal of the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs.

Paris has declared Russian cyber activities unacceptable

During the meeting, the Director of the Department for Continental Europe lodged a strong protest with the Russian diplomat over the malicious cyber activities which, according to the French side, Russia is carrying out on French territory. In particular, the statement mentions the 16th Centre of the Russian Federal Security Service.

The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasised that such actions are directed not only against France, but also against a number of other European states. Paris described them as unacceptable and incompatible with Russia’s status as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.

France has pledged to respond in conjunction with its allies

The French side also informed the Russian representative that it would continue to coordinate its actions with international partners to counter cyberattacks.

The French Foreign Ministry stated that the country intends to use all available mechanisms provided for under international law to prevent, deter and respond to destabilising actions directed against it.
