A man who hid cocaine in his daughter’s rucksack has been sentenced in Odessa
This was reported by the National Police of Ukraine.
How the cocaine distribution network operated
According to the investigation, a man from Odesa organised the sale of cocaine in large consignments across the region. Law enforcement officers documented his activities in the autumn of 2023, after which they arrested him in the centre of Odesa. At the time of his arrest, the man had arrived by taxi with another consignment of drugs.
The investigation established that he had enlisted his own daughter to cover up his activities. The cocaine had been divided into plastic bags, hidden inside packets of sweetcorn snacks, sealed with adhesive tape and placed in the child’s rucksack, which the girl was carrying.
During searches at the scene of the arrest and at the suspect’s home, law enforcement officers seized over a kilogram of cocaine. Forensic tests confirmed both the weight and the origin of the drug.
What sentence did the court hand down?
The defendant remained in custody during the pre-trial investigation. The court offered him the opportunity to be released on bail, but he did not exercise this right.
The man was tried under Part 3 of Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — the unlawful acquisition, possession and transportation of narcotics on a particularly large scale with the intention of selling them.
Having examined the case materials, the court found the defendant guilty and sentenced him to nine years’ imprisonment with confiscation of property.
