Japan plans to provide Ukraine with $6 billion in aid in 2026
Japan plans to provide Ukraine with $6 billion in aid this year. This was announced on 4 February 2026 by Ihor Zhovkva, Deputy Head of the Office of the President, during the IV Ukraine-Japan Forum "Establishing a Rules-Based Order: The Role of Ukraine and Japan in Global Security."
According to Zhovkva, since the start of the large-scale war and open Russian aggression, Japan has provided Ukraine with more than $15 billion in aid. This includes humanitarian, financial, and non-lethal support. He emphasised that Japan is one of the world leaders in terms of the amount of aid provided to Ukraine.
Separately, the Deputy Head of the Presidential Office drew attention to Japan's plans to allocate $6 billion as early as 2026. According to him, it is important that these funds, which will be used to support the Ukrainian budget, are received in the first half of the year.
Zhovkva also noted Japan's contribution to overcoming the energy crisis caused by Russian shelling. He said that Japan responded promptly to the appeal of the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy and provided equipment ranging from generators to complex energy systems. During the last energy meeting in the Ramstein format, which took place two weeks ago, Japan declared the transfer of 140 generators, 60 transformers and two cogeneration units.
In addition, the representative of the President's Office thanked the Japanese side for its assistance in the rehabilitation of Ukrainian military personnel undergoing treatment in Japanese medical facilities.
