In Britain, the main suspect has been released following the murder of politician Anne Widdecombe

What is known about the investigation
The body of 78-year-old Anne Widdecombe, who had suffered serious injuries, was found on 9 July at her home in Devon. The police subsequently launched a murder investigation.
The following day, police arrested a 26-year-old UK resident. Following initial investigative procedures, he was released and informed that he was no longer being treated as a suspect.
Devon Police stated that investigators are continuing to gather evidence and establish the full circumstances of the crime. According to preliminary findings, there are currently no indications of a political motive or a terrorist act.
Reaction from British politicians
Reform UK leader Nigel Farage described Widdecombe’s death as a great loss to British politics and to his party. Prime Minister Keir Starmer also expressed his condolences to the victim’s family and urged people not to obstruct the work of the police, who are continuing their investigation.
Who was Anne Widdecombe
Anne Widdecombe served as a Conservative Member of Parliament for over two decades and held the post of junior minister in John Major’s government. After leaving the Conservative Party, she joined the Brexit Party, served as a Member of the European Parliament, and later became one of the most prominent figures in Reform UK. Widdecombe was also known for her conservative views and active participation in public debates.
