Israel has deployed the ‘Iron Dome’ to another country for the first time
This is according to Axios.
Israeli military personnel have also arrived in the UAE
According to the publication, the decision to deploy the system was approved by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Along with the ‘Iron Dome’ battery, a stockpile of interceptor missiles was delivered to the Emirates. Israeli military personnel have also arrived in the country to operate the system and ensure its functioning. As Axios notes, this is the first time an Israeli air defence system has been deployed outside the country.
The reason cited is the threat posed by Iran
According to the publication’s sources, the decision was taken against the backdrop of regular attacks which the United Arab Emirates is reportedly facing.
Axios reports that since the escalation began, hundreds of missiles and thousands of drones have been launched at UAE territory. According to the publication’s sources, the ‘Iron Dome’ has already been used to intercept aerial targets, though the exact results of its operations have not been disclosed.
Military cooperation is intensifying
In addition to deploying the air defence system, the Israeli military, according to Axios, has carried out strikes on launch sites within Iran that could have been used for attacks on Gulf states.
The publication notes that cooperation between Israel and the United Arab Emirates in the fields of security, defence and intelligence has reached its highest level since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2020.
