Latvia allocates EUR 200 thousand to support Ukraine's energy sector
Latvia has announced the allocation of 200 thousand euros to the Energy Support Fund of Ukraine. This was announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia Baiba Braže on the social network X.
According to her, the financial assistance is aimed at supporting the Ukrainian energy system, which is subject to regular attacks by Russia. The foreign minister emphasised that Moscow uses the winter period as an instrument of pressure, and therefore international support for Ukraine's energy sector is urgent.
Baiba Brazier stressed that Ukraine's security is directly linked to the security of the whole of Europe. The allocated funds should help to restore the energy grid and increase its resilience in the face of military threats.
At the same time, Ukraine is receiving support from other partners. This week, Luxembourg transferred €10 million to the Energy Support Fund. Germany has also announced an increase in its contribution by €100 million, bringing the total amount of assistance in the energy sector to €550 million.
