Muzychuk sisters are among the leaders of the 2025 World Cup in rapids
Ukrainian chess player Maria Muzychuk is among the tournament leaders after the eighth competitive day of the 2025 World Rapid Championship. In four games, she won four victories and drew four times, scoring 6 points.
Only China's Zhu Jinger and India's Koneru Humphrey, who won all four games, have more points after the opening rounds. The tournament is being held in Doha under the auspices of FIDE and has brought together 140 participants from different countries.
Ukraine is represented at the World Championship by sisters Maria and Anna Muzychuk. After the eighth day, Anna has 5.5 points and ranks 22nd in the standings. She is the reigning World Rapid champion of 2016, when the competition was also hosted by Doha.
The World Rapid Championship is held according to the Swiss system and consists of 11 rounds. The final rounds are the ones that decide everything, and at the end of the year, Doha will also host the World Blitz Championships on 29-30 December.
