“Investigator’s Office” has been introduced into the system for tracing persons missing under special circumstances.

It was unveiled during a specialist conference attended by experts working on the identification of the deceased.

As explained by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the new tool has been integrated into the Unified Register of Persons Missing Under Special Circumstances. The feature was created to keep track of unidentified persons and simplify the process of their identification.

The developers note that “Investigator’s Office” is intended to transform the complex and psychologically demanding procedure of identification into a clearer and more structured algorithm for working with data.

The tool allows for searching and preliminary screening based on a range of characteristics. These include, in particular, physical features, personal belongings, clothing, tattoos and other characteristics that can help narrow down the range of possible matches.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs emphasises that this approach makes it possible to minimise the review of irrelevant material and focus on the most likely matches.

Investigators working with data on unidentified bodies are granted access to advanced search and information filtering tools.

The ministry believes this should reduce the time taken to analyse data, make the handling of information more systematic, and enhance control over the identification process.

For the general reader, the essence of the innovation is that law enforcement agencies are provided with a dedicated digital tool that helps to more quickly match data on unidentified individuals with existing information in the register. This is important, first and foremost, for speeding up the search for matches and ensuring a more organised approach to cases involving persons missing under special circumstances.
