Germany allocates another €60 million to support Ukraine's energy sector
Germany has mobilised an additional €60 million to support Ukraine's energy infrastructure amid ongoing Russian shelling. This was announced on 17 January by the German Foreign Ministry on social media, according to ZDFheute.
The ministry stressed that Russia's attacks are deliberately targeting the civilian population and energy facilities. That is why Berlin has decided to provide additional financial assistance, which will be used to provide heat, protection, and heating and hot water systems for Ukrainians during the winter.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga welcomed the German government's decision. According to him, this support will help people stay warm and safe by strengthening heating systems, especially in frontline regions that are most affected by the attacks.
The new package complements the energy and civil protection assistance already provided by Germany. Overall, Berlin remains one of Ukraine's key partners in countering the effects of strikes on critical infrastructure in the context of full-scale war.
