Orban says Ukraine's fall will be a disaster for Hungary
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has said that his country is not interested in Ukraine's fall, as it would be a catastrophic scenario for Hungary itself. He said this in a speech, fragments of which were posted on the social media platform X.
According to Orban, the destabilisation of Ukraine will create serious problems for Hungary, so Budapest should be interested in reaching agreements that will prevent such a development. He stressed that the stability of the neighbouring state is of practical importance to the Hungarian side.
Orban also reminded that Hungary supplies Ukraine with electricity and natural gas, and the ongoing war is weakening the Ukrainian economy and the state as a whole every day. In his opinion, only peace can stop this process and create conditions for recovery.
The prime minister also said that those who truly support Ukraine should seek peace as soon as possible. At the same time, Orban has previously sharply criticised the European Union's financial assistance to Ukraine, calling EU loans "lost money" and publicly questioning Russia's responsibility for the outbreak of war.
