Poland considers transferring up to eight MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine
Poland is considering the possibility of transferring 6–8 MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine, which are to be decommissioned by the end of December as part of the Polish Air Force. This was announced by Deputy Minister of National Defence of Poland Cezary Tomczyk on TVN24.
According to him, Poland has a total of 14 MiG-29 aircraft, but some of them are due to expire this year. It is these aircraft that can be transferred to Ukraine. The Polish Ministry of Defence emphasises that the possible decision will not affect the country's defence capability.
Tomczyk noted that the aircraft could end up in museums or be scrapped after being written off, but their transfer to Ukraine would allow the equipment to be used to strengthen defence. At the same time, he did not rule out that cooperation could include the exchange of experience or technologies, particularly in the field of unmanned systems.
A final decision on the MiG-29 has not yet been made. It is expected that the issue will be discussed during the planned visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to Warsaw on 19 December.
