Russia has started imposing petrol rationing: what is happening at petrol stations in Moscow and St Petersburg
This is according to New Format.
According to the publication, the restrictions are already in place at some petrol stations belonging to major Russian chains.
What limits have been introduced at petrol stations
The strictest rules have been introduced at Tatneft petrol stations. There, drivers are allowed to purchase no more than 20 litres of AI-92 or AI-95 petrol per transaction. Up to 40 litres of diesel fuel can be purchased. The Rosneft network has set a limit of 90 litres of fuel per customer. At Lukoil petrol stations, the limit is up to 100 litres of petrol or diesel. Russian media report that these measures are justified by the need to control fuel stocks and avoid disruptions to supply.
Why petrol shortages may have arisen
The restrictions at petrol stations have been introduced against the backdrop of regular strikes by Ukrainian drones on Russian oil infrastructure. Over recent months, oil refineries, oil depots and other facilities within the Russian Federation’s fuel complex have come under attack. Following the damage, some facilities halted certain production processes and carried out repair work. Due to reduced refinery capacity and increased demand in some regions of the Russian Federation, difficulties with fuel supply have arisen. This is precisely why some operators have begun to impose sales restrictions.
