The US and Iran may sign an agreement: the terms have been set out
Washington and Tehran are close to reaching an agreement aimed at easing tensions between the two countries. The parties are discussing restrictions on Iran’s nuclear programme, the situation regarding the Strait of Hormuz, and a possible easing of US sanctions

This is according to Bloomberg.

According to Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, preparations for the electronic signing of the agreement could begin shortly, with technical-level talks expected next week. He made the announcement on social media platform X.

What the potential US-Iran deal entails

US President Donald Trump has previously stated on several occasions that an agreement with Iran is imminent, but the parties have not yet reached a final deal. Among the key issues in the negotiations are guarantees that Iran will not develop nuclear weapons, as well as the restoration of stable shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. According to US officials, the future agreement may allow Iran to retain its civilian nuclear programme, but will require the removal of enriched nuclear material from the country. If the terms are met, the US may gradually ease sanctions and pave the way for Iran’s return to the global economy.

What issues remain unresolved

Tehran insists on access to frozen Iranian assets and retaining influence over issues related to the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, Washington stresses that the key condition remains Iran’s lack of a military nuclear programme. The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reported that the country is continuing to study the proposed draft agreement. The final decision is to be taken by the Iranian leadership.
