Russian drones have attacked Kharkiv and its suburbs; there are casualties

On the night of 19 May, Russian forces launched drone strikes on Kharkiv and other towns and villages in the region. Two people were killed and 12 others were injured, including a child.

On the night of 19 May, Russian drones attacked Kharkiv. Strikes were reported in the Kholodnohirskyi, Saltivskyi and Novobavarskyi districts of the city.

In the Novobavarskyi district, private homes caught fire following the strikes. According to Mayor Ihor Terekhov, 25 private homes and one high-rise building were damaged by the two strikes.

Later, the head of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration, Oleg Synyegubov, reported that 30 private homes, four cars and a post office had been damaged in Kharkiv.

Rescue workers evacuated two people from one house. Another person may be trapped under the rubble. Emergency services are working at the scene, and a search and rescue operation is underway.

In the Novobavarskyi district, a residential building has been destroyed and a fire has broken out covering an area of 150 square metres. Units from the State Emergency Service, including bomb disposal experts, dog handlers and psychologists, have been deployed.

In Kharkiv, a 47-year-old and a 67-year-old man, as well as a 50-year-old and a 73-year-old woman, were injured.

According to Oleg Synyegubov, the 47-year-old man suffered glass lacerations, whilst the 50-year-old woman experienced an acute stress reaction. It later emerged that a 73-year-old woman in the Novobavarskyi district also suffered an acute stress reaction.

Over the past 24 hours, Kharkiv and 13 settlements in the region have come under Russian attack. As a result of the shelling, two people were killed and a further 12 were injured, including a child.

A woman was killed in Pokotylivka, Vysokanska community. A 33-year-old woman and a 6-year-old girl were also injured there. The State Emergency Service report states that a 69-year-old woman was killed in the village of Pokotylivka, and three other people were injured, including a child.

A 57-year-old man was killed in the village of Shevchenkove, and a 55-year-old woman was injured.

In Bilyi Kolodiaz, in the Vovchanska community, a 43-year-old man was injured.

In Bohodukhiv, men aged 41 and 69, as well as women aged 29 and 78, were injured.

According to the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, Russian forces used various types of weaponry in the Kharkiv region.

These included four guided aerial bombs, 10 ‘Geran-2’ drones, 11 ‘Molniya’ drones, 11 FPV drones and 23 drones of an as yet unidentified type.

Civilian infrastructure, residential buildings and vehicles were damaged or destroyed.
