Russian troops have attacked a number of regions in Ukraine; there have been fatalities and dozens of people have been injured
Sumy Region
On the night of 21 July, Russian forces carried out strikes on Sumy. Oleg Grigorov, head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, reported that the ‘Epicentre’ DIY hypermarket was destroyed as a result of the attack.
According to him, the clean-up operation is being hampered by constant repeated attacks. Russian drones continue to hover over the site of the strike, posing a threat to rescue workers and other emergency services. Work is being carried out with due regard for the security situation.
Prior to this, a Russian rocket-propelled drone struck a nine-storey residential block. A fire broke out on the ground floor, and rescue workers evacuated the residents. Six people were injured, including four children.
According to the State Emergency Service, Russian forces carried out repeated strikes whilst the large-scale fire at the shopping centre was being extinguished. As a result of one of the attacks, a service vehicle was destroyed and another State Emergency Service vehicle was damaged. Two cars in the area surrounding the building also caught fire as a result of the shelling.
According to Oleg Grigorov, an 8-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl, who sustained minor injuries, are currently in hospital. The other casualties received medical treatment without being admitted to hospital.
Kherson Region
Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of the Kherson Regional State Administration, reported that 22 people, including a child, were injured over the past 24 hours as a result of Russian attacks.
In the region, two high-rise blocks, seven private houses, a shop and private cars were damaged.
Dnipropetrovsk Region
According to Oleksandr Ganzha, Head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration, Russian forces launched more than ten drone attacks on the Nikopol and Synelnykivsk districts.
In the Nikopol district, the communities of Nikopol, Chervonohryhorivka, Myrivka, Marganetsk and Pokrovsk were hit. A fire broke out, and infrastructure and a car were damaged.
In the Mykolaiv community of the Synelnykivskyi district, a car was damaged. Two civilians were killed.
Chernihiv Oblast
Russian drones attacked Chernihiv. Dmytro Bryzhynskyi, head of the Chernihiv City Military Administration, reported that an administrative building had been hit.
A fire broke out at the site of the strike. According to preliminary reports, one person sustained blast injuries, acoustic trauma and an acute stress reaction.
Donetsk Oblast
Vadym Filashkin, Head of the Donetsk Regional State Administration, reported that on 20 July, Russian troops killed four residents of the region. Two people were killed in Kramatorsk and another two in Druzhkivka.
A further 13 people were injured. Ten were injured in Kramatorsk, two in Novoselivka and one in Bilenke.
Kharkiv Region
According to the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, on the evening of 20 July and during the night of 21 July, Russian troops attacked Kharkiv using FPV drones and unmanned aerial vehicles.
At around 22:25, an FPV drone struck a parked car in the Shevchenkivskyi district. No one was injured.
At approximately 23:15, another FPV drone struck a petrol pump at a petrol station. A fire broke out, which was extinguished by the emergency services. The petrol station’s equipment was damaged.
After midnight, an FPV drone attacked another petrol station in the Kyivskyi district of Kharkiv, damaging a car.
At around 04:05, the Russian army launched a drone strike – believed to be an ‘Italmas’ type – on the Nemyshlyanskyi district. A private residential building was damaged and a fire broke out.
Five people suffered acute stress reactions, including two men, two women and a 13-year-old girl. Law enforcement agencies have launched pre-trial investigations into the attacks under the section of the Criminal Code relating to war crimes.
