Kyiv schools take an energy break: additional holidays will last until 1 February
Starting 19 January, schools in Kyiv will have extra holidays that'll last until 1 February. This decision was made by the Capital's Defence Council in line with a government resolution, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
According to Klitschko, these holidays will be compensated for by reducing the spring holidays and one week of summer holidays. At the same time, the school year in the capital's schools must end no later than 1 July.
The mayor stressed that the safety of children remains a priority for the city, but Kyiv must also comply with government decisions and ensure the continuity of the educational process even in difficult conditions.
Earlier, against the backdrop of problems in the energy system following Russian attacks, the government and the Ministry of Education and Science recommended temporarily suspending face-to-face learning and switching educational institutions to a remote format or extending the holidays until 1 February. At the same time, cities and regions are making their own decisions, taking into account the security and energy situation.
In particular, schools in Brovary plan to resume in-person learning on 19 January with reduced lessons. In Odesa, educational institutions are operating as usual, while in Zaporizhzhia, offline learning continues in underground schools. In contrast, in the Kharkiv region, due to complications with the power supply, a transition to distance learning or the introduction of holidays is being considered.
