Slovenia is preparing to create the largest floating solar power plant in Europe
The investment in the project is estimated at approximately $116.6 million USD, reports ThePublic.info citing the publication pv magazine.
Funding includes HSE's own funds, loans, and support from the EU Just Transition Fund. The company will retain ownership rights, and the management of the facility will be carried out by its subsidiary. PSE Druzmirje aims to become Slovenia's largest solar project and one of the most powerful floating power plants in Europe.
According to project manager Simon Chizmek, spatial planning is currently underway. A government document with a detailed plan is expected in the fourth quarter of this year. Negotiations are ongoing with local authorities, and HSE emphasizes that financial and social benefits will be distributed among regional residents.
After construction is completed, the coastal zone is planned to be transformed into a recreational-social space, combining the development of renewable energy with new amenities for the community. Work is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2026, with electricity production starting in the first quarter of 2027. It is expected that the station will produce up to 140 GWh of electricity per year, which will provide electricity to approximately 35,000 Slovenian households.
The project will surpass the record of the French floating power station with a capacity of 74.3 MW, opened in June 2025.
