The US has deployed more than 60 combat aircraft at an airbase in Jordan
Satellite images taken on Friday captured more than 60 fighter jets at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base. This is approximately three times more than the usual number of aircraft stationed at this base. According to flight tracking data, at least 68 transport aircraft have landed there since Sunday. Some of the fighter jets may be under cover. This was reported by The Public, citing the NY Times.
The images show modern aircraft, including F-35 fighter jets, as well as drones and helicopters. The military has also installed new air defence systems to protect the base from possible Iranian missiles.
Jordanian officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to operational issues, noted that American aircraft and equipment are located within the framework of a defence agreement between Jordan and the United States.
The build-up in Jordan is part of a broader strengthening of the US military presence in the region amid negotiations over Iran's nuclear programme. On Friday, President Donald Trump told reporters he was considering a limited military strike to pressure Iran into a deal.
Jordanian officials have expressed hope that negotiations between the United States and Iran will lead to an agreement that will avert war in the region. Over the past month, representatives of Jordan, as well as Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, have been positive about the talks and have stated that they will not allow attacks on Iran from their territory.
