In the Donetsk region, Russian troops are losing more than 400 of their soldiers just to occupy a single square kilometre of territory.

This was stated on Telegram by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi.

According to Syrskyi, he met with Lieutenant General Curtis Bazzard, Commander of NATO’s Special Mission for Security Assistance and Training in Ukraine.

Against this backdrop, the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces briefed his American counterpart on the operational situation on the battlefield.

“Ukrainian soldiers are doing everything in their power to make every step the enemy takes as costly and gruelling as possible for them. Consequently, for example, in the Donetsk region, the Russian army is losing more than 400 soldiers to capture just 1 square kilometre of territory,” Syrskyi stated.

He also emphasised that Ukraine must seize the strategic initiative, which is why it is resorting to active defence.

The Commander-in-Chief noted that the enemy’s offensive capabilities are being successfully reduced and its ability to launch massive missile and air strikes is being curtailed.

To this end, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are striking targets within the Russian military-industrial complex at ranges of up to 2,000 km.

“Also, as part of Operation Middle Strike, we are destroying the Russians’ logistics network at distances of up to 200–300 km from the front line. This should also have an impact on the battlefield,” added Syrskyi.

As a reminder, the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces previously summarised the strikes against the enemy in June and outlined Russia’s losses.
