The Afipsky Oil Refinery in the Krasnodar Krai has come under attack by drones
On the night of 10–11 June, drones attacked the Afipsk oil refinery in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai. The region’s operational headquarters stated that a fire had broken out on the refinery’s premises as a result of the attack. Initial reports indicated that there were no casualties.
According to Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Centre for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine, the Afipsk oil refinery was hit. He noted that a fire had broken out on the refinery’s premises.
According to the Russian side, the fire was brought under control at around 7 am.
The Afipsky Oil Refinery is one of the largest oil refining enterprises in southern Russia. The plant produces petrol, diesel fuel, gas condensate distillates, heavy oil residues and sulphur. The plant focuses primarily on export supplies.
This is the third attack on the plant since the start of the year. The facility was previously hit on 21 January and 14 March.
During the night-time attack, drones were also spotted over Krasnodar. Veniamin Kondratyev, Governor of the Krasnodar Region, reported that debris from one of the downed drones fell on a block of flats in the Central City District. According to him, two people were injured.
The Russian Ministry of Defence stated that overnight, air defence forces allegedly intercepted and destroyed 330 Ukrainian drones over various regions of the country. In particular, drones were detected over the Bryansk, Kursk, Belgorod, Oryol, Smolensk, Kaluga, Tula, Tver, Vladimir and Moscow regions, as well as over the Krasnodar Krai and the temporarily occupied Crimea.
Due to the threat posed by drones, from the evening of 10 June, Rosaviatsiya imposed restrictions on operations at the airports in Tambov, Krasnodar, Sochi, Gelendzhik and Zhukovsky in the Moscow region.
