The Danish Defence Minister has visited Kyiv for the first time: Ukraine and Denmark are preparing new defence projects
This was reported by the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence.
During their first bilateral meeting, the parties discussed new military aid packages, the situation on the front line, arms procurement, defence reforms and the development of joint technological projects.
According to Mykhailo Fedorov, just one week after the appointment of Denmark’s new Minister of Defence, the Ukrainian side began coordinating with its partners to adjust the previously announced aid in line with the current needs of the front line.
In particular, Denmark agreed to replace short-range 155-mm artillery shells with long-range ones.
What projects are planned
The parties paid particular attention to the development of defence innovations.
Fedorov reported that Ukraine and Denmark had discussed the launch of the ‘Denmark Brave1’ programme, which is set to become a new area of cooperation in the field of defence technology.
The parties are also working on a joint project to manufacture missiles in Denmark.
In addition, the talks covered the development of the Freya anti-ballistic programme, which the Ukrainian side regards as a promising project for strengthening the security not only of Ukraine but of the whole of Europe.
According to Fedorov, Ukraine hopes that Denmark will join the international consortium that will work on implementing this project.
What else will they be focusing on?
Among the priority areas for cooperation, the parties cited the PURL programme, the procurement of long-range artillery and support for the production of Ukrainian drones.
Fedorov also noted that since the start of the full-scale invasion, Denmark has provided Ukraine with aid totalling nearly 10 billion euros.
What the Danish Defence Minister said
Jeppe Brøus stated that Denmark is interested not only in continuing its support for Ukraine, but also in drawing on Ukraine’s combat and technological expertise.
According to him, Ukrainian developments in the field of long-range strikes and defence technologies are of considerable interest to the Danish side.
The minister also announced that new aid packages for Ukraine are due to be announced in about a week’s time.
What was said about defence procurement
During the briefing, journalists asked Mykhailo Fedorov about the company Fire Point.
He replied that it is up to the law enforcement agencies to assess the company’s activities.
According to the minister, the Ministry of Defence is continuing to switch arms procurement to competitive tendering procedures. In particular, open tenders are already underway for the procurement of long-range 155-mm ammunition and unmanned aerial vehicles.
Denmark remains one of Ukraine’s key partners in the development of the defence industry and the financing of arms production.
If the agreement is implemented, cooperation could extend beyond the supply of military aid to include the joint production of modern missile systems and the development of defence technologies.
