UNESCO and the EU are to provide €2 million to help preserve Ukraine’s documentary heritage
This was announced by the Ukrainian Ministry of Culture.
The project will be funded by the European Union and the government of the Belgian region of Flanders. This was announced during the Conference on the Reconstruction of Ukraine in Gdańsk.
The programme provides support for archives, libraries and other institutions that preserve documents, particularly in frontline regions. Funds will also be allocated to the digitisation of documents and the creation of systems for their long-term preservation.
Furthermore, the project will advance the digitisation and long-term preservation of documents, particularly those relating to national minorities. It will promote open access to archives and counter the falsification of history.
The initiative is a continuation of a project launched in 2025. It will now cover the documentary heritage of the entire country, including that of national communities.
