Trump threatened a harsh response to Iran in the event of an assassination attempt against him.
US President Donald Trump has stated that the United States will destroy Iran if the Iranian authorities attempt to assassinate him. He made this statement on 21 January in an interview with NewsNation, commenting on threats from Tehran.
According to Trump, he has already given very strict instructions on how the US should respond. He stressed that in the event of any attacks or attempts at physical elimination, the response would be directed against the entire country. The American leader emphasised that the president is obliged to protect not only himself, but also anyone who could become a target of such threats.
Trump also criticised the policies of his predecessor, Joe Biden, saying that he did not respond decisively enough to threats from Iran. In his opinion, the lack of a tough response only encouraged aggressive statements from Tehran.
Tensions between the US and Iran escalated after Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf threatened Trump with serious consequences in the event of a strike on the Islamic Republic last week. Washington viewed these statements as a direct threat to the current US president.
