Two people were killed as a result of Russia’s night-time attack on Kyiv

Russian forces launched a ballistic missile attack on Kyiv overnight. Hits and fires have been reported in the Sviatoshynskyi and Darnytskyi districts of the capital; there are fatalities and casualties.

On the night of 16 July, explosions were heard in Kyiv during an air raid alert. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russian troops attacked the capital with ballistic missiles.

Timur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, reported the ballistic attack and urged residents to take shelter.

According to the mayor, Vitali Klitschko, a strike hit a warehouse in the Sviatoshynskyi district. In the Darnytskyi district, rocket debris fell on a non-residential development, and a strike on a non-residential building was also recorded. Fires broke out in both districts.

According to the latest figures, two people were killed as a result of the Russian shelling. Six residents of the capital were injured, including a 16-year-old boy. Three of the injured were hospitalised.

The State Emergency Service of Ukraine clarified that in the Darnytskyi district, fires broke out in an administrative and warehouse building, a storage facility and lorries parked nearby. The fires have been extinguished. Two people were killed in this district, and two others, including one child, were injured.

In the Sviatoshynskyi district, a fire broke out in a single-storey warehouse following a strike. Three people were injured; the fire has been contained.

Rescue workers are continuing to deal with the aftermath of the attack. Details regarding the fatalities and injuries are being confirmed.
