The court has ordered the resumption of Voice of America broadcasts and the reinstatement of a thousand employees
This is according to NBC News.
US District Judge Royce Lamberth of the District of Columbia has ruled that the near-total shutdown of the US Agency for Global Media (USAGM), which oversees Voice of America and funds several international broadcasters, violates federal administrative law.
According to the judge’s ruling, the broadcaster’s permanent staff must return to work by 23 March 2026, and the USAGM has been ordered to resume international broadcasting, which it largely ceased over the past year, with the exception of some broadcasts.
However, the judge’s ruling does not apply to Voice of America’s freelance staff.
Director Michael Abramowitz commented on the ruling, stating that Voice of America “has never been more needed than it is now”.
