The Ukrainian fencing team won five medals at the European Championships. The last time Ukrainian fencers won this many medals was 21 years ago.

This was announced by the Ukrainian Fencing Federation.

At this year’s European Championships, which concluded in Antony, France, Ukrainian fencers won five medals: one gold and four bronze.

The sole gold medal for the Ukrainian team was won by 23-year-old Olga Sopit in the women’s foil individual competition. This victory was historic – it marks the first-ever European title for a Ukrainian foil fencer.

Sopit added another medal to her tally in the women’s foil team event, where, alongside Daria Myronyuk, Alina Polozjuk and Kristina Petrova, she won bronze – also a first in Ukraine’s history in this discipline.

As previously reported, Ukrainian track and field athlete Yaroslava Mahuchikh won the ‘gold’ stage of the Continental Tour in Hengelo, the Netherlands. She cleared a height of 1.94 metres.
