Ukrposhta has unveiled a series of stamps to mark the 30th anniversary of the ‘Podillia Tovtry’
This was reported by the Ukrposhta press office.
What is depicted on the stamps
The stamp set comprises four stamps: ‘Eagle Owl (Bubo bubo)’, ‘Podillia Tovtry’, ‘Great Pasque Flower (Pulsatilla grandis)’ and ‘Green Lizard (Lacerta viridis)’.
At the centre of the composition, artist Mykola Kochubey has depicted the Tovtry Ridge — the remnant of a barrier reef of the ancient Sarmatian Sea, which formed millions of years ago.
The stamps also feature rare species of flora and fauna that are protected in Ukraine.
Why the park is unique
The ‘Podilski Tovtry’ National Nature Park was established on 27 June 1996 by a decree of the President of Ukraine. Its territory covers over 261,000 hectares, making it the largest park in Ukraine and one of the largest in Europe.
In 2008, the ‘Podilski Tovtry’ were included in the list of the Seven Natural Wonders of Ukraine, and since 2017, certain sections of the park have been included on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Within the park’s territory, there are 161 protected natural sites, over 300 historical and architectural monuments, and 19 archaeological sites. Over 1,500 species of plants grow here, and more than 300 species of vertebrates inhabit the area, around 50 of which are listed in Ukraine’s Red Book.
The park’s main natural attraction is the Tovtry Ridge — the remnant of a barrier reef of the ancient Sarmatian Sea, which formed millions of years ago and is considered one of Europe’s most unique geological formations
