Umerov announces new round of consultations on security and war in the US
Another round of consultations in the United States with American and European partners has been completed. This was announced by the Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council Rustem Umerov on Facebook. "We agreed with our American partners on further steps and continuation of joint work in the near future," the NSDC Secretary said.
As previously reported, the talks started on 19 December with the participation of the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Andriy Hnatov. European partners are also involved in the format.
According to Umerov, the Ukrainian side is ready for a constructive dialogue. Prior to the meetings in the United States, preliminary consultations with European colleagues had already taken place, which allowed them to agree on a common vision of further steps. The NSDC Secretary emphasised that the talks were held in close coordination with Washington.
Umerov noted that after the consultations, he would report to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the results of the talks. He emphasised that Ukraine is acting in line with the priorities set by the President, the main one being a reliable and long-term security guarantee.
The consultations in the US take place against the backdrop of statements by the Russian leadership about its intention to continue the war. Earlier, the Russian president publicly stated that he did not see 2026 as a period of peace. At the same time, Ukraine's Western partners emphasise the need to strengthen coordination in the defence and security sector.
