Armenia has guaranteed that it will not extradite to Russia individuals who are being persecuted for political reasons.
Armenia will not extradite Russian citizens who are being persecuted for political reasons to the Kremlin. This was stated in an interview by the country's parliamentary speaker, Alen Simonyan.
According to him, as of today, no one has been deported to Russia because of their political beliefs. He stressed that he can officially guarantee that there will be no detentions or deportations of such persons to either Russia or third countries.
Simonyan clarified that decisions on expulsion are made exclusively in relation to those who violate Armenian law. At the same time, he acknowledged that there have been isolated cases of detention of citizens, but after clarifying the circumstances, these people were released.
Thus, Yerevan confirmed that it would not cooperate with Moscow on the extradition of persons who may be persecuted for their political views, and emphasised its commitment to complying with its own legislation and international obligations.
