A prosecutor from the Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office has filed a claim with the High Anti-Corruption Court seeking a ruling that the assets of the president of one of the district courts in Vinnytsia Oblast are of unjustified origin. The case concerns property in Kyiv and rental income totalling over 6.8 million hryvnias.
On 14 May 2026, new forest fires broke out in the Chernobyl exclusion zone following a Russian attack. According to the State Agency for the Management of the Exclusion Zone, the fires were caused by the downing of a ‘Geran-2’ UAV; however, radiation levels have not exceeded safety limits.

The reason for this is a column by journalist Nicholas Kristof regarding alleged sexual abuse, bullying and ill-treatment of Palestinians in Israeli detention centres.
The NABU has announced a competition for the Public Oversight Council. Applications from civil society organisations will be accepted from 15 to 29 May 2026 inclusive, and an online vote to rank the 15 members of the Council will take place on 10 June.
In Uzhhorod, the SBU and the police are conducting searches at the Uzhhorod Regional Recruitment Centre and Joint Stock Company. According to journalist Vitaliy Hlahola, investigations are also underway involving the acting head of the recruitment centre, Mykola Myhaleiko, and three other individuals who are being questioned in connection with the case.
Ukraine has qualified for the grand final of Eurovision 2026 in Vienna. Ukraine’s representative, LELÉKA, performed in the second semi-final on 14 May with the song “Ridnym” as entry number 12 and became one of the ten contestants to secure a place in the final.
In early March 2022, $100,000 in volunteer funds went missing from Denys Shterman’s premises during a search. He spoke about this during a meeting of the Temporary Investigation Commission, noting that a report had been filed and the police were investigating the matter, but no results had been produced as yet.
Dmytro Lubinets, the Verkhovna Rada’s Human Rights Commissioner, has described the desecration of the bodies of captured Ukrainian soldiers as a deliberate policy on Russia’s part. According to him, Ukraine is already aware of 337 Ukrainian soldiers who surrendered and were deliberately shot by Russian soldiers.

Family Day in Ukraine will be celebrated on Friday, 15 May 2026. This holiday coincides with International Day of Families, which was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in 1993.
During a night-time attack on Kyiv on 14 May, Russia destroyed the offices of the Ukrainian defence company Skyeton. The company stated that there were no casualties and that production of unmanned aerial systems would continue, as production facilities had been relocated in advance to various regions of Ukraine and abroad.
A bill entitled “On the System of Long-Term Military Service and the Reserve” has been tabled in the Verkhovna Rada. The bill proposes that, following 12 months of basic military service, citizens should automatically be enrolled in the active reserve for a period of five years.
